June 11-15, 2012 - McKeever’s Nature Day Camps are designed to re-connect children with the natural world through play, adventure and fun – all of which takes place in the natural world at McKeever, it’s forests and streams and the many plants and animals that live there.
Each day and throughout the week, we instill a ‘sense of wonder’ while children explore and discover the natural world around them. A big part of each day’s activities will be using the senses of touching, smelling, listening and seeing.
EarthKeepers Level II
June 20-22, 2012 - All of the things necessary for life can be found in the proper balance on the Earth — sunlight, air, water, and soil. It is the flow of sunlight energy and the cycling of air, water, and soil which are responsible for the existence of all life, including ours. [Read More...]
EarthKeepers Summer Camp
July 11-13, 2012 - A mysterious, unseen character known as E.M. permeates the Earthkeepers program. As the keeper of the keys, E.M. is everyone’s dream of the wizard of the woods. Becoming an Earthkeepers is an important task and each learner is rewarded after each step with a special key. These keys open real locks on boxes that contain secret meanings about the true nature of E.M.
Nature Day Camp (8-9 Year Olds)
July 16-20, 2012 - McKeever’s Nature Day Camps are designed to re-connect children with the natural world through play, adventure and fun – all of which takes place in the natural world at McKeever, it’s forests and streams and the many plants and animals that live there.
Each day and throughout the week, we instill a ‘sense of wonder’ while children explore and discover the natural world around them. A big part of each day’s activities will be using the senses of touching, smelling, listening and seeing.
Hardwood Lumber Grading Short Course
July 23-26, 2012 - The first day will be spent in thorough explanation and group discussion of NHLA rules and procedures for the inspection and measurement of hardwood lumber and the requirements for various grades. The next three days are spent in actual grading and individualized instruction.

Outdoor Adventure Camp

September 23-25, 2011 - Nature Artists will display and sell their artwork during McKeever’s annual fall event. Each gallery will be filled with an artist’s work that reflects the wonders and beauty of nature. Enjoy the day, as you walk between galleries on a tree-lined paved walkway. [Read more...]
Oil & Gas In PA: The Science Under Our Feet
Friday, August 12, 2011 - This field and classroom workshop begins with a session on the basics of petroleum geology. We will examine the features necessary for a rock to store oil and gas deposits and also explore why the region we live in is so rich in hydrocarbon deposits. During the workshop we will examine a section of a Marcellus Shale core from northwestern Pennsylvania and discuss what makes this unit such an attractive target to drillers.
Finally, we will visit local state parks and other nearby attractions that highlight the birthplace of the petroleum industry in northwestern Pennsylvania. Topics include: basic rock identification and reservoir characterization, hydrocarbon formation and occurrence, the geology of the Marcellus Shale, and the history of the oil and gas drilling in Pennsylvania. Our instructor is Jaime Kostelnik, Geologic Scientist from Pennsylvania’s Geological Survey.
Workshop includes (8) Act 48 hours, lunch, snacks, materials and program.

Introduction to PA Forests
Thursday, July 14, 2011 – This workshop includes a history of PA Forests, Forest Ecology, Tree Identification, Forest Regeneration, and Forest Utilization. Jake Scheib, Service Forester from DCNR’s Bureau of Forestry will be our instructor. The workshop will include a hands-on session of identifying 15 trees common to PA using a dichotomous key. Participants will leave with instructional materials and a Tree ID CD-ROM.
