School Programs
Earthkeepers
Is a three day/two night residential program for students in 4th through
6th grades. The students participate in special learning adventures
and learn how to become Earthkeepers. After going through a series of
comprehensive activities, students earn keys and unlock the secrets
of an unseen character named E.M. who permeates the Earthkeepers
program.
Sunship Earth
Is a five day/four night residential program for 5th and 6th grade students.
At the Sunship Study Station, students are involved in a
re-training process to learn the operating principles of how life works
on the planet. Throughout the week, students travel on three concept
paths unlocking the secrets of the letters of the formula EC-DC-IC-A,
the secret story of life. The formula conveys seven (7) key ecological
understandings of how life works on the planet: Energy Flow, Cycles,
Diversity, Community, Interrelationships, Change and Adaptation.
Sunship III
Is a three day/two night program for 7th and 8th grade students. In
this program, students come to understand their dependency on the natural
systems of life and the need to minimize their impact on these systems.
Program goals include: 1) to help students develop stronger feelings
for the natural world, 2) to learn the basic ecological concepts of
energy flow, cycles, interrelationships and change and 3) to provide
opportunities for students to examine their own lifestyle and impact
on the planet.
Where Energy Comes From
Is a one-day (in school) program for 4th-6th grade students that focuses on energy and materials
used in your school. This 3-hour program consists of the formation of fossil fuels, where food comes
from, packaging, recycling and composting. This leads into countless extension activities for your
students.
Web of Life
Is a two day/one night experience for 3rd and 4th grade students. During
the two days of programming, students learn how plants and animals are
connected to each other in a giant web of life. The ecological concept
of community is also conveyed where students study three distinct communities
(field, forest and marsh) and the plants and animals that live in these
areas.
Day Programs
Involves a four to five hour experience utilizing many of the nationally
known environmental education curricula, such as Outdoor Biological
Instructional Strategies (OBIS), Project Learning Tree (PLT) and Earth
Education. Activities are designed to assist students in building an
empathy with the natural world. Students will be involved with sensory
awareness and concept-building activities throughout the day. Day Use
Programs are designed for K through 12 grade students.
